An interview with Desamou Musa Abdul Qaabid (1940-), a resident of Lower Roxbury. Abdul Qaabid talks about his father, Sylvester Zechariahs Thorpe, an emigrant from Sierra Leone who traveled the world as a merchant seaman. Thorpe served in the United States Army and settled in Massachusetts after his service. Known as Reverend Thorpe, Abdul Qaabid's father gave lectures on metaphysics. Abdul Qaabid also talks about his grandmother, a political woman who provided boarding to generations of their family seeking educational opportunities in America. This interview was collected as part of Northeastern University's Lower Roxbury Black History Project (2007-2009).
