Abstract/Description
An interview with David F. Hunter (1952-) and Stephen "TeeDee" Hunter (1954-), who talk about their father, Layman Tracy Hunter (1909-). Layman Tracy Hunter was born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut, and he was a talented pianist who became the organist of the Mount Olive AME Zion Church at the age of nine. Layman Tracy Hunter joined the International Gospel Party, which staged revivals at churches across the country; his first revival in Roxbury was at the Columbus Avenue AME Zion Church with Reverend Dr. Wm. Frederick Fisher on New Year's Eve in 1933. The Hunters talk about the changing scene of gospel music in Boston and the founding of the Christ Temple Church of Personal Experience. This interview was collected as part of Northeastern University's Lower Roxbury Black History Project (2007-2009).
